A very productive week for both sightings & photographs. 4 new bird species for the year were seen - Sand Martin, Willow Warbler, Blackcap & Ring-necked Parakeet. Several wildflowers were also new for the year, with a couple close to flowering (something to look forward to for the coming week).
One subject of the following pics is of a dead Roe Deer that I found on the far bank of the canal. Judging by the wound on one of its back legs i suspect it was hit by a car and later died of its injury. I checked on it again this morning and it appears the Foxes have had a good meal...and I`m hoping they leave the head alone as i`d like to add the skull to my collection.

"mutant" Dandelion |
A lot of superb shots here. That Dandelion looks very odd.
ReplyDeleteI shall keep my fingers crossed for the Fox head.
Thank you Toffeeapple. The way the Dandelion has grown is known as "Fasciation" where more than one flower head grows on a single stem.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful collection of photos and sightings Dean. The "mutant" dandelion is interesting - we had a "mutant" foxglove in our garden last year. I wish I had a canal close enough to walk along.
ReplyDeleteThank you Caroline. This is without a doubt my favourite time of year as there's virtually something new emerging daily. The Dandelion is only the second one i've seen regards this mutation and i have seen a Daisy with the same conjoined flower heads.
DeleteWe are very lucky that the canal runs along the back of our flat and not forgetting the river 5 mins away to the front of our street.
