Swan Rescue

I was on my way along the canal to Morrisons this morning when i noticed that one of the Kelvindale pair of Mute Swans was covered in blood. So i immediately phoned Kirsty from Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue Centre. When the bird lifted its head i could see what looked like a hole behind the left eye. Anyway, to cut a long story short Kirsty & her husband turned up and safely caught the bird. As we all thought it was the female bird, Kirsty said they would come back and collect the eggs for incubation at the rescue centre.
On my way back home, Kirsty phoned to say that it wasn`t a hole behind the eye but it had been bleeding from its ear as a result of a fractured skull and it could`ve been kicked in the head. Later on she phoned me back to say that they`d gone back to collect the eggs only to find the other bird sitting back on the nest.
Fingers crossed the injured bird makes a full recovery and is re-united with its partner.

  1. How awful Dean - the poor swan. I do hope it makes a successful recovery and can be returned to its mate. Fingers crossed the nest is ok.

    1. Thank you Peggy...but the real heroes are Hessilhead who go out every day no matter how big or small the animal is that's in need of help.
