Back at the beginning of May i found a "leaf rolling" moth larva on a Birch but i didnae know what species it was, so i collected it and brought it home to rear through. Anyway it coccooned & pupated at the end of the month...and this morning it hatched but it wasnae an it, it was many!! Yep, the larva had been parasitised by one of the smaller Ichneumon Wasps.

Really fascinating - but sad for the butterfly. I hope you got all of those out of the house!

DeleteFascinating Dean! I've found ichneumon wasps in my moth trap in the past!
ReplyDeleteIt is Caroline. I've had quite a few emerge from Moth pupae. Talking of which i've got an unknown Noctuid larva that's about to pupate and i just hope it's not been parasitised. I've had quite few of those orange ones in the moth trap years ago.
